About Layer51
This whole venture started with a simple idea a few years ago that became my first product. I had gotten into 3D printing, and I’m a musician (and also a nerd). Playing at home, I noticed that some effects-pedal switches were pretty rough on shoeless feet, so I had the idea to design a footswitch button cap. Something to make it a bigger target, easier to step on, and comfortable even in bare feet.
Speaking of bare feet: at the time, I had no idea similar items like the metal Barefoot Buttons already existed. When I eventually found them, I noted that mine were a different design, lighter weight, and don’t require set-screws to be mounted securely - not to mention the variety of colors and sizes I can make them in - so I opened an Etsy store and gave it a shot. People seemed to dig them, so I kept going.
Now, a few years later, a move to the deserts of Nevada prompted the branding change to Layer51, my original ‘Bullseye Button’ design has evolved into the UFOs I currently offer, and I’ve designed and added a handful of other products I think are useful and fun as well. More items for musicians and their pedalboards, some cool items for the nerdy and nostalgic, and of course what online shop would be complete without t-shirts, right?
Every item here at Layer51 is designed by me personally; all 3D print items I designed and modeled from scratch, and I print them in-house, and all T-shirt graphics and illustrations are my original work as well. If I ever do purchase or license a design for a product, I will make that known on the product page and will amend this statement here.
